THE TASK FORCE SQUADS

Task Force Volunteers

 You, too can Help

Ground Force

Ground Force was the first resident Service Team, staying in Blackthorn soon after it opened in June 2001. Comprising of Middlesex East County personnel the group continues to hold regular service weekends every year, doing everything from painting to planting trees.

The Team was responsible for planting the maze on Fletchers Field and regularly act as a Service Team when the County holds large scale events at the site.

1st Grange Park Guides

This group first came in 2004 - planted trees and built the Elizabeth Steps from the lower car park.

They have helped with the compost and wood art activity

They were the first resident Guide Service Team and continue to come and help us regularly

Die Hard Explorers

Led by Mark Win and Tom Bevan the Die Hards from Eastcote have helped repair the patrol shelters and made a super job of re-roofing the "Tunnels". This is a popular activity on site and deem by users to be "wicked".

Weston’s Wonderful Workers at Northern Heights is a Weston family Team - supplemented by Barbara Darwood (they needed a cook!) Regulars at the site each year, they have re-dug ditches, re-created the small pond on the lower field and trimmed hedges.

Hendon & Edgware Explorers

A local Group , Hendon and Edgware Explorers have provided several Service Teams who helped to create the campfire circle in the woodlands and assisted with the creation of the bird scrape. The latter project was graphically described by one member in the St. George’s Day Service broadcast from Windsor. They have helped clean wheelie bins, re-roof shelters, make a wood rack in the yard and set the archery posts in concrete

16th Bushey Brownie Guiders

Experts with the brush, this Group regularly use the Earth House and felt they would like to help at the site as a way of saying thank you for happy times on Pack Holidays.

As you cans see - they painted the outside of Blackthorn.

Endeavour Explorers

From Harrow, the Endeavour Explorers have helped to clear blackthorn from our northeast corner making dead hedges for our hibernating hedgehogs. They also put up the rope bridge there.

1st Crouch End Guides

The Team had a great time putting up a "way we used to camp" exhibition. This involved creating a Dakota hole and other camp fire places, making a washing up stand

gadget and pitching a bell tent .

They also planted a horse chestnut tree

Enfield RSPB

Without this group we would not have the bird hide and scrape.

They also regularly keep an eye on the bird boxes, cleaning them each year and logging who is living where. A shy group, we have to do with pictures of the scrape instead of them!

Hearts of Oak

This Service Team comes for a day every month from 10.15am- 3.15pm.

All are welcome and many are members of the various Trefoil Guilds in Middlesex East

The group looks after the site notice boards, undertake painting jobs, clear ditches, look after the flower beds, prepare items for the site souvenir shop, help with spring cleaning and general site maintenance

Mid week volunteers

This Team of willing volunteers usually have a specific role to play - grass cutting, tiling, laminating, carpentry projects, electrical skills, recycling etc

Arrangements are made directly with The Warden
